At its Management Meeting in Gütersloh at the beginning of May, Bertelsmann had announced the establishment of a Technology and Data Advisory Board. Now this advisory body, which met a few days ago in Berlin for its constitutive meeting, is taking shape: it will be headed by Rolf Hellermann, CEO of Arvato Financial Solutions. In his new, additional role, Hellermann will be supported by Rhys Noelke, currently Senior Vice President Strategy and Business Development at RTL Group, among others. Noelke will move to Bertelsmann’s Corporate Centre in Gütersloh on 1 September 2019. As Senior Vice President Technology & Data, he will report to Bertelsmann CEO Thomas Rabe and will work closely with Rolf Hellermann.

Thomas Rabe

Thomas Rabe says: “Data and tech are becoming more and more important for our businesses. Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning and Data Analytics are areas of particular importance to Bertelsmann. Our goal is to become the technologically leading media, services, and education company. With the establishment of the Advisory Board, we actively address these challenges. I am delighted that Rolf Hellermann is taking over responsibility for this crucial area for Bertelsmann, and that Rhys Noelke will use his expertise to forge ahead with these tasks.”

As a Group-wide advisory body, the Technology and Data Advisory Board will foster the exchange of know-how as well as internal and external alliances and cooperations – and thereby contribute to a stronger coordination of such activities, projects and initiatives at Bertelsmann. Rolf Hellermann had already explained the role of the new Board at the Management Meeting: “The Board will serve as a point of contact for tech- and data-related topics at the level of the businesses on the one hand and for the Executive Board and the Group Management Committee on the other. It will advance Bertelsmann’s Technology and Data Roadmap.”

Rolf Hellermann began his career at Bertelsmann in 2004, at the Corporate Centre. In 2012, he took over as head of Bertelsmann’s central Controlling and Strategy department, and in July 2015 he was additionally appointed to the Arvato Board as Chief Financial Officer. Hellermann has served as CEO of Arvato Financial Solutions, based in Verl and Baden-Baden, since November 2018. He was appointed to the Bertelsmann Group Management Committee in January 2019.

Rhys Noelke has held successive positions at RTL Group in Luxembourg since 2007. Since 2015, he has led the strategy department and, above all, expanded the group’s competencies in digital video, ad tech and data. Since 2016, he has also coordinated the Bertelsmann Data Exchange Initiative, which promotes synergies and knowledge transfer in the fields of Data and AI.
