14.07.2020, Luxembourg, RTL Group
Today, we welcome a very special, newish colleague to the team. Find out more in the exclusive Backstage interview with Arty L.
Backstage: Hi Arty L.! You have recently joined RTL Group. Glad to finally meet you in person and a warm welcome to Backstage. We understand you’ll be making regular appearances here from now on and will soon be going back to working in the office, so we’d like to ask you a few questions to get to know you better.
Arty: Excuse me? Just Backstage?! I thought I would have my own office, assistant and company car here. A stage. To be honest: my own show! Isn’t this RTL after all…? I probably should have read the employment contract a little more carefully.
B: Where are you from?
A: Groop says that I was created by the Munich cartoonist 'Bulo’ and his mini movie making studio Gary Glotz. But I can't believe that somehow, because Bulo's characters are actually a lot uglier. And have bigger noses – oh, hang on...
B: What is this funny ball of fur with crooked eyes that follows you everywhere? Should we be afraid?
A: It depends on how you encounter him. Or her? I haven't really figured that out yet. Neither what ‘it’ actually is. One thing is certain: Groop can sometimes be demanding and even exhausting – sometimes it all gets a bit too much. But one thing is certain: I can always rely on Groop.
B: Well, it’s good that HR has allowed you to bring your pet to work... By the way, what will you be doing?
A: The correct answer would probably be: “my job”. What is that exactly? If I had a business card, it would hopefully read “CCCC” – Chief Corporate Cartoon Character. It’s always nice to have a little ego boost. I’ll be giving my personal views on relevant topics and trends in the RTL world. I hope I will make you smile – because that’s what I’m all about!
B: Your first day was the day we were all sent to work from home, so we didn’t have the opportunity to introduce you yet. What are you looking forward to as we gradually return to the office?
A: It will be interesting to find out whether I closed the office window and switched off the computer on my first working day in the building before we had to go and work from home...
B: And what do you think is the best thing about working from home?
A: The best thing about working from home? Probably, that it gives more flexibility if you can and want to do it. Personally, I’m looking forward to meeting my colleagues face-to-face instead of always seeing them in 2D. Inspiration and innovation are not as easy to realise via a computer screen compared to exchanging ideas with others in person.
B: Now we’d like to get to know a bit more about you. Can you tell us one fun fact about yourself?
A: Are you seriously asking a snub-nosed, nerdy guy, with a strange hairstyle and an indefinable wool ball creature for company what is funny about him? Okay – maybe that I like stamp collecting?
B: Name one thing that you can’t live without?
B: And last, but not least: what do you like about being #PARTOfRTL?
A: That this company welcomes such a diversity of characters, including Groop and myself.
Thank you, Arty L. and welcome to the team!
We look forward to seeing you around on Backstage!
