Bertelsmann is investing several million euro over a three-year period in funding as many as 50,000 tech scholarships on the online education platform Udacity, in order to strengthen employee’s tech skills and teach the digital skills needed for tomorrow’s job market.

The Udacity Technology Scholarship Program is open to all RTL Group colleagues who are interested in further expanding their tech knowledge within the three tech learning paths of cloud, data and artificial intelligence. The programme builds on the success of previous initiatives, and the 2021-2022 round is, for the time being, the third and final round of the three-year initiative. In the first two rounds of the scholarship programme, more than 105,000 people from all over the world applied for 30,000 available slots. Around 4,000 of the applications came from Bertelsmann employees.

Aspiring students in the Scholarship Program can choose which subject areas to further expand their knowledge in. The three subject areas are:

  • Cloud: for example applications for online-based IT infrastructures
  • Data: for example applications for the analysis and interpretation of large volumes of data
  • Artificial intelligence (AI): for example applications related to machine learning and intelligent algorithms

The scholarships cover introductory Challenge courses, followed by in-depth Nanodegree courses, in which about ten per cent of the Challenge course graduates will be able to participate.

1. Challenge Course (from 14 December 2021 to 14 February 2022)

During the first phase of this scholarship, the student is provided with access to an introductory Challenge Course for two months. Applicants should be prepared to invest about 2-4 hours per week during this period, which can easily be managed on a part-time basis. The scholarship recipients participating in this initial phase of the program will be part of a robust student community where they can engage with and receive support from their classmates.

2. Nanodegree Program (from 1 March 2022 to 31 August 2022)

1,600 participants will receive a scholarship for a full Nanodegree program in their chosen subject area. Access to these Nanodegree programs includes expert project reviews, mentorship, and community support. Applicants should be prepared to invest about 5-10 hours per week for the six-month program.

The application phase for the third round of Udacity Tech Scholarship Program is open from today, 5 October, until 30 November.

The programme is available in English, takes place online and can be followed at each student’s own pace, as long as they complete the course within the specified time. The only technical requirements are access to a computer and the internet – although the videos can also be watched on a mobile device. The Udacity courses consist of a mix of videos, quizzes, exercises and interviews with experts, while students also have to submit projects to gain the Nanodegree.
